Days 320 & 321 (Thu 6/6/13 & Fri 6/7/13)- Charleston, SC

Didn't I just say yesterday that Savannah is the most beautiful city we have ever seen? Okay so this is a lesson in making big statements.

However lovely Charleston was, the weather we encountered getting there made Savannah's thunderstorm look like child's play. Tropical storm Andrea bore down on us just as we reached the town of Beaufort, known for it's coastal beauty. We managed to avoid being swept away in flash floods but having limited options in a storm spent the rest of the day safely indoors.

Celebrating the next morning with free donuts for National Donut Day we could hardly complain, especially when the sky allowed for a brief respite in rain and we were able to briefly tour the city. Our elation was short lived though as parking was especially problematic in this town. This led to us not actually being able to stop and for some less than ideal picture taking.

We drove past several historic churches including the South's oldest Baptist church and the aptly named Circular Congregational church which were both impressive in their own right. With the downtown consisting of cobblestone streets lined with bright colored French style homes it's beauty easily matched Savannah's though it is probably best described as a tie.
